St. Lucia Sandals Halycon Destination Wedding | Motherhood Unplugged

When we planned our wedding day we both agreed that we did not want the typical church wedding at a venue in our city. We most definitely wanted a destination wedding. I decided to do it in the caribbean as this would be close enough so that it wasn't super expensive but also far enough away so that it felt like a real vacation. We chose St. Lucia and I decided to hold it at Sandals Halcyon. I was very much into interior decor at the time and the Martha Stewart wedding packages just pulled at my heart strings. My husband and I flew out about 5 days prior to everyone else that attended to have a pre-wedding moon on the island alone. We met with the wedding planner at the hotel and had a wedding cake tasting as well as discussed final touches for the big day. They had a hairstylist on site but being a budgetnista I brought along my gear and ended up putting my hair up in a french roll for the wedding day. My hair is natural and I knew after swimming + humidity no hairstyle would last, especially at the beach. I also did my own makeup and just called it a day. I think everything came together well despite doing it all myself. To save even more money I personally made my table centerpieces with a few materials from Michael's. My girlfriend made our invitations so that saved us even more, thanks Janarda!
As far as saying YES to the DRESS I shopped at a local discount warehouse in Atlanta and fell in love with my wedding dress. I thought that I would keep it forever as a keepsake, but honestly I'm not that sentimental lol I sold it recently on Poshmark so another woman could wear it for her special day. She loved it so much and thanked me gratefully, that honestly meant more to me than letting it hang in my closet for years to come. I've actually sold quite a bit from my former corporate America years so if you're looking to fund your next trip this is a great way to do it.

During our pre-honeymoon, my husband and I booked a speedboat excursion to see the Pitons in St. Lucia. You can see the full video of that hilarious trip on the boat on my Youtube. Also add me on Snap at motherhoodunplg. We also were able to bathe in the volcanic sulfur bath and my skin has never felt so soft. I definitely need to do that again whenever we are near one. Everything about my wedding day was perfect except for the wedding photographer. Honestly her vantage point was too low for my husbands height and I just didn't love the angles she took our pictures at all. The pictures here were taken by my husband the day AFTER our wedding. Yes I redid my hair and makeup just to get some decent pictures. We also met another couple who were familiar with Nikon cameras and they were kind enough to take a few of us together in our regular clothes. I'm so grateful for them as well.

Overall, having a destination wedding was the best decision for us. Our wedding party was approximately 12 people including close friends and family and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Thank you to all that came. This year we are celebrating year numero 8, almost at the 10 year mark and I'm expecting a pretty nice trip as a surprise (hint hint) lol no but for reals Jason.
