When you are a budget traveler saving time, money and space is always a priority. The last thing you want to do when traveling as a family is to be overwhelmed with luggage and besides you can live with less and I'm here to show you how.
Here a few tried and true travel hacks to packing less:
1. Use packing cubes, compression bags + zip lock bags come in handy as well. I like to use packing cubes because they save lots of space and can easily be taken out when you need to reach something in a pinch. You can also roll up your clothes like sushi rolls and save tons of space for much needed items.
2. Just take your carry-on bag. We've been using the Narway bag for our last couple of trips and they fit everything we need in there and are quite durable.
4. Wear your heaviest shoes on the airplane. This goes without saying especially if your bag weight is approaching the max allowed.
5. Check the weather before you pack. Make sure you have only what you need for the destination.
6. Always bring a 'personal item.' It's basically your second carry-on and I always use it to my full advantage. I'm usually the care-taker of the passports so I like to bring a fanny pack or shoulder bag on all of our trips to keep things like money + passport ID's safe with me. I also use it to hold small snacks for the kids.
7. Pack your loose items in the bottom of your bag if you choose not to use cubes. This way the TSA agent isn't waving your thongs at the rest of the passengers during an inspection. Believe me this has happened, so embarrassing lol
8. Leave no space unclaimed. I'm always throwing in last minute items, especially for the kids they usually remember that one toy they just have to bring as we are getting into the car.
The moral of the story is no matter where you travel, no matter the airlines you can prepare yourself for a stress free trip by prepping and packing less. Be sure to double check your airlines baggage policies prior to leaving just to make sure you are compliant. I'd hate to get to the counter and have to shell out some of my fun money for baggage fees.
