The Oxford dictionary primarily defines 'brave' as the following: ones ability
to endure danger + pain ; and courage. I add to this that both traits have to co-exhist and work simultaneously with one another.
When I look at my two sons everyday I see bravery, courage and the endurance to face their fears. In fact, just yesterday my youngest three year old asked me to place him up into a tree so that he could climb up further. Of course as a mom I immediately became a bit anxious but I overcame my fear and doubts of his ability and I let him do just that, sit high up into the tree. My oldest five year old immediately chimed in that he too wanted to sit up into the tree. I knew he would because he has a very adventurous spirit. As I lifted him up into the tree I told him to be very careful and stood close enough to catch him if he fell. To my surprise he leaps out of the tree like a tiger and lands softly on his crocs! Ha! Total mom panic attack here. I was taken totally off guard but he was perfectly fine, if I would have allowed he surely would have done it again.

In life, we will all have to cross that bridge of facing our fears head on and deciding to be brave + show courage. I always encourage my boys to be brave even when traveling. There are always new foods to taste, swimming missions, going on a fast waterslide, touching a star fish, diving challenges, snorkeling, wind surfing, kayaking, hiking etc all things they either have not done before or have experienced but take the task a bit further for a challenge.
When my husband and I teach our sons life lessons, bravery is one of the crucial ones especially when preparing them to go out into the world and have their own experiences at school, camp and even the playground. Sometimes bravery means being the person who stands out in the crowd, or being the one who speaks up against wrong doing + injustice, picking friends that bring you joy and not just because they are popular, taking risks and accepting defeat without resentment.
Whatever the task, situation or experience I know that I want my boys to be authentic, to be themselves, to be able to endure, show courage be kind and most of all loving towards themselves + others.
I created this tee for them as well as our youth because in this current climate I felt that they + we could use a bit of bravery, love, courage and empowerment.
