Travel | Black Owned Hotels | Black + Abroad | Motherhood Unplugged

I remember when I first got my passport. It was for a trip to the Dominican Republic with a girlfriend for her birthday back in 2005 and we'd miss Homecoming at CAU that year. I recently came across the pictures I took of us on that trip and it took me back down memory lane. If I could tell my 20 year old self one thing it would have been to travel more often + much farther. I'm definitely instilling this mentality in my boys when it comes to traveling for adventure, culture and personal growth. I don't want them to be hung up on finding the love of their lives when they are so young and have so much living to do. I'd much rather they be Black&Abroad.

My mom was a stewardess once upon a time and always had a love for traveling as well. I'm so thrilled that the black community is using their black dollars to travel abroad. I'm a member of the Nomadness Tribe and love being apart of a community celebrating black culture + travel all rolled into one. There are so many companies that have formed as well to help further, expose + document this movement. I even recently learned about some of the hotels/resorts that are owned by black people. There are various types of accommodations one can book these days ranging from hostels, Airbnb and the traditional hotel. Read on to find out where you can spend your next dollar on black accommodations:

Every thing about this North African hotel is luxurious from the urban design to the location in Marrakech, Morocco.

An intimate Family owned all inclusive resort on the island of Grand Anse beach, Grenada.

BET co-founder Shelia C. Johnson personally designed this lavish property herself, which boasts 168 rooms and suites on 340 acres in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Not only are the rooms at Salamander elegant, but the property has features you won’t find anywhere else like an equestrian center, a fishing pond and ziplining all on site! Pictures of this resort simply don’t do it justice.

Located In a secluded garden a stone’s throw from two of the world’s most pristine white sand beaches is Paradise Cove, where hospitality, friends and the easy and elegant lifestyle of Anguilla await.

Have you had the pleasure of staying at a black owned hotel or resort? Tell us about your experience.

Happy Traveling!
