3 Great Books You Need to Read | GIVEAWAY ALERT | Motherhood Unplugged

This summer I made a goal to read one book per month. It was quite a task to find #mommyminutes where I could steal time during the day to read but now that I have a routine it has become much easier. I now find time to read after the kids go to bed, while I'm waiting for the school bus or on a plane ride.

I started out this summer with Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur. Rupi Kaur's New York Times Bestseller is a collection of poems about her experience with abuse, survival of violence, love and loss. I totally became entranced reading her words as I turned each page I felt like she was writing about some bits of my life. I especially related to her poem to her father. The relationship between my father and I is quite strained, in fact, I haven't spoken to him in years although he and my mother both live in the same apartment. If you are into poetry or femme literature definitely pick it up. Rupi is also touring her book right now and will be in Atlanta on October 24th. Read my favorite poem by her below:

father. you always call to say nothing in particular. you

ask what i'm doing or where I am and when the silence

stretches like a lifetime between us I scramble to find

questions to keep the conversation going. what I long to

say most is. I understand this world broke you. it has been

so hard on your feet. I don't blame you for not knowing how

to remain soft with me. sometimes I stay up thinking

of all the places you are hurting which you'll never care to mention.

I come from the same aching blood. from the same bone so

desperate for attention. I know the small talk is the only way you

know how to tell me you love me. cause it is the only way I know

how to tell you.

In July, I picked up You are a Badass at Making Money, after seeing Own by Femme post it on IG. She is one of my favorite IG profiles to follow and if she was getting great business advice from this book then I wanted to follow suit. I took the book with me on our trip to Orlando Florida to visit Universal. You can check out our YouTube from that trip here. This book was quirky, comedic and informative all in one. I definitely took away some great advice on being more assertive and confident in running my business. I think this book is great for beginners in business as well as those who are already established.

Influencer

In August, I picked up the hot topic book, Influencer by Brittany Hennessy. This was definitely my favorite book this summer. It was all the rave on IG and I decided to pick it up after seeing Mattie post about how great it was to read. I loved all her "Don't be that girl" advice spread throughout the book. This is definitely a book that I highlighted and dog-ear marked for later reference. If you are serious about growing your social media presence and building your brand definitely pick this one up.

I'm also including a bonus book Zero Faux Given, authored by my husband @renezero.

Next on my list to read for the remainder of September is Essentialism. Have you read any of these gems, what did you think? What book is on your list this month?

I'm hosting a giveaway for one of these awesome books on IG, enter the giveaway to win a free book on our Instagram @motherhoodunplg.
