Dollar Tree Homeschool Curriculum | Motherhood Unplugged

Homeschooling with Dollar Tree

When I see expensive packets selling preschool curriculum materials I just scratch my head thinking why on earth would anyone pay for something that you can find for FREE online or for as little as $1 at The Dollar Tree. Homeschooling your preschooler doesn't have to be an expensive feat. We've been homeschooling since 2015 and I've found so many treasures for the boys at our local Dollar Tree.

Our Dollar Tree carries a host of preschool workbooks on subjects like shapes, vocabulary, science, math you name it they've got it. I have scored National Geographic flashcards, maps of the United States, science kits and more all for just $1 to educate my boys. Buying workbooks is much cheaper than paying to print them at home plus they often come with fun stickers that keep them more engaged like the one featured above on science.

I also love that you can get lots of other craft supplies like googly eyes, foam letters, felt, glue, scissors etc. Arts n crafts projects are a big hit around my house and going to just one place for everything is always a plus in my book.

Here's a list of unconventional items you can grab at The Dollar Tree to incorporate into your curriculum:

1. Cooking utensils: can be used for imaginary play both indoors and outdoors when weather permits

2. Ice trays: can be used for sorting, storage and science

3. Divided storage containers: can be used for sorting or a small treasure box to keep their prized possessions found on nature walks

4. Shaving cream: can be used for science (although a particular brand did break one of my kids out in a rash)

5. Baking soda: can be used for science

6. Q-tips: can be used for art and steam building activities

7. Plastic animals: can be used for theme play, sorting, counting and name recognition

8. Marbles: can be used for counting, sorting and fun games

As with anything just be mindful of your child's age and maturity, some of these items can be swallowed or put into ears like the Q-tips causing injury if not supervised.
