Self-care with Tumeric Masks | Motherhood Unplugged

Tumeric Masks

This year I've tasked myself with finally clearing up my skin for good. I've been on this quest for years now and haven't quite figured out how to manage + lessen my stress levels as they in turn show up all over my face. I've finally kicked eating meat, most dairy and sugar products. I occasionally will have a slice of 'real' pizza, ice cream or my favorite childhood candy. I've also been diligently guzzling gallons of water and have seen tremendous improvement in my face. A few products I've been using are rosehip oil twice per day as a moisturizer, vitamin c serum at night as well as hyaluronic acid to boost my skins hydration. I'll do a separate post on those later this week. For now this post is about the amazing benefits of applying a daily or weekly turmeric mask to decrease and fade hyperpigmentation.

What you will need:

Organic honey

Apple Cider Vinegar

Natural DIY masks are nothing new and in fact turmeric powder has been used for centuries in Ayuerdic and Chinese medicine. I'm loving the turmeric mask for its magic in fading my dark spots from past acne flare ups. The plant is made from the same family as ginger with a bright orange/yellow tint. It gains most of its healing powers from its concentration of curcumin, a powerful antioxidant. If you want radiant glowing skin read on for the deets.

First things first, before you make this concoction be sure to protect your countertops and wear old clothing as turmeric will stain anything it comes in contact with. I've found that rubbing alcohol does a good job in cleaning it off of countertops.

In a small jar, mix the turmeric powder with the honey, apple cider vinegar, licorice root powder and optional lemon oil/juice for brightening. Try to get a consistency that will stick to your face. Be careful not to make it too thin as it will drip and stain. Allow the mask to sit on your face for 15-20 minutes and rinse clean.

There are many different ways to combine turmeric with other natural ingredients like milk, yogurt, banana, olive oil, aloe vera etc.

Do you use turmeric in your skin care? Let me know in the comments.

Thanks for reading!
