VIPKID Marketing 101

ree

Lights, Camera, Action!

Think about your classroom as your virtual Disney show! This is especially true if you are marketing to Levels 1-3. The children in that age group need more animation, props, TPR and encouragement to focus. I like to pull out all the stops aka props when working with this age group. If you choose to certify for Trial Classes then you will definitely want to up the ante and bring your A game. These classes are a test run for parents to see if they want to use the services at VIPKID and if they do join you get a conversion $$. This means more money for you and the perk is that student just might be your regular for the remainder of their program. Ka-ching!

Remember it is important to mirror the student. If you get a low key or shy student mirror their energy then bring them up a few notches so they can really enjoy the fun of learning English! Use Improvisation in your class. You won't be able to control everything the student says or does but knowing how to improvise and switch gears will save your class.

Marketing yourself comes first with you profile. Be sure to take a great profile picture showing your personality like the fun one above. Use bright lighting, a prop, your headset perhaps and definitely smile. Use a professional editor or photo editing app to make the picture look professional. Wear a bright colored shirt, perhaps orange and look presentable (hair done, makeup done) etc Next up is your intro video. Check out an extended version of my 1st video here. Hire some help filming your video or enlist a friend to be the camera man. Use a video editing software program like imovie or finalcut pro to make it look professional and cut it down to less than 40 seconds. The portal has size limitations for video files so be sure it will upload and if not resize accordingly. Lastly, write your heart out. Writing your bio should be short and sweet yet convey all of the following:

1. Teaching experience

2. Educational background

3. Excitement about teaching

4. Any additional certifications

5. Invite them to join you in the classroom

As a 1099 contractor you are your own boss, pay/file your own taxes and run your own show. Your online classroom is your own business and you should treat it as such. Allllll of the other teachers on the platform are your friendly competition so be sure to put your best face forward by building an A+ profile. Most of all just be yourself, everyone else is already taken :)
